What is the Social Media Marketing?

Social Media Marketing for Your Success

Social media is everywhere.
Social media is everywhere.

Everywhere you look, you see businesses tapping into the power of social media. For a few years now, you’ve noticed the URLs for a company’s social profile attached to television ads, print and web ads. And now it seems every blog post and every company ad now features the ubiquitous Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and Linkedin share buttons and icons. So lets continue with social media marketing, what it is and how it affects us on a daily basis.

So, what’s really going on here? From a personal perspective, you’re well aware that social media has rewritten the rules of nearly every area of life and human interaction — all in just a few short years. But how are businesses really using social media marketing, and is it effective?

Well, the surprising truth of the matter is that while nearly every business is ostensibly using social media for their marketing efforts, the vast majority of them don’t really know how to use it effectively or even why they are doing it in the first place.

In fact, a recent survey, showed that only 12 percent of Fortune 500 companies were satisfied with the ways they are being served in their social marketing efforts. When I hear figures like that, it immediately tells me that so many businesses, online and offline, just don’t know how to use these technologies effectively.

So What is Top Social Media Marketing?

It depends on what part of the top you are thinking of. The top social media marketing tools? Or the best information you can find on social marketing and networking? Many questions come in to play. But for me I find that the best authority on social interaction and basics starts with the most recent books and resources that discuss in great detail from start to finish and encompass the history as well. So a good place to research would be…

So, without further delay, I would like to present my personal list of top ways that social media marketing can transform your online business.

Your Brand or Mark in the World of Advertising

Whether you are General Motors or a mom and pop floral shop, your brand is the one thing you really have going for you. And the same goes for online business. You have to build a brand that

You are your brand.
You are your brand.

means something and that reflects your values. You do this by promoting, and social media is an incredibly

powerful way to do this. The bottom line is that you have to create quality content and truly useful information, and social media marketing helps you share it with potentially thousands of people who might not have known you existed.

Think about it. People only share information with their friends and associates that they truly think is valuable and will reflect well on them. Give them good stuff, and they’ll pass it along.

Targeting Your Audience Using Social Marketing

Naturally, most websites train their focus on getting lots and lost of traffic. Social media marketing enables you to get the right kind of traffic — targeted traffic. Let’s say your blog or site is themed on fishing and providing affiliate links for fishing equipment you review and recommend. To build a good target list of potential customers, you’ll want to go on various social media sites and search for people in your site’s interest group. Start following them, and as you build a relationship, they will be much more likely to share your information with their online connections.

One thing I’ve learned to do is create email marketing inside social networks that have generated huge revenues for me. If you are wanting a part of this 10 Billion Dollar business. Traffic — The Lifeblood of Any Business

If you’ve been online for a while, you don’t need me to tell you that a steady flow of traffic — or visitors to your site — is the single most import business objective. If you aren’t running a business and you only want to keep an electronic diary for your friends and family to read, then traffic doesn’t matter. Those folks are going to visit your site anyway. But if you are running a business, traffic and lots of it is critical.

Here they come!
Here they come!

As long as you are creating high-value content, you can readily use social media marketing to drive traffic. People who share your interests will always be looking for new ideas, articles and resources to share. And when your content gets shared, you’ll have a steady supply of traffic coming in your front door.

Improved SEO Rankings

I can get you there quickly.
I can get you there quickly.

Search Engine Optimization or SEO is an ever-changing game, and there are theories in the millions on what will make you look good in the eyes of all-powerful Google, Yahoo, Bing and a lot of other minor search engines.

One thing all of the SEO experts agree upon is the fact that a powerful social media presence sends strong and positive signals to the search engines. And a robust social media profile  is increasingly becoming critical in overall SEO profile. A long story made short — social media marketing gets you better natural search results.

Site Authority Through Conversation

We’ve discussed above how social media will get you more traffic through social recommendations and better search rankings. Beyond affiliate revenue and/or ad revenues, all these visitors will not only help you make earn revenue but have more genuine conversations as well. And this is critical for growing your sites reputation as a destination for your corner of the online world.

If you have attempted much of it at all, you know that marketing ain’t cheap. Just go print up some direct mail pieces, or buy a lot of online ad clicks and you’ll see what I mean. As an aside, did you know that this year’s most expensive adwords clicks on Google  are in the insurance segment. Each time someone clicks through to your site, it’s going to cost you roughly $55. That could add up quickly.

But back to social media marketing. What else can I say. It’s completely free. And it’s most likely  more trusted because people are making personal recommendations about your brand, you and your site. It is a much needed form of advertising as well.

Interacting With Like Brands

Ever notice how in urban and suburban areas all the chain restaurants seem to cluster up 10 or 15 together in a close area? Logic would say that they are hurting themselves because they might be losing potential customers to the competition.

But the opposite is actually true. The area becomes a destination for diners and more people actually flood in. The same goes for market segments on the Internet. When you partner up and share content with other site owners in your industry, everyone benefits.

An Open Arena For Customer Feedback

If you frequent sites like Yelp.com or Tripadvisor.com, you know that traditional brick and mortar businesses just can’t escape social media through online reviews. People are going to be talking about you (good or bad) whether you like it or not. So, you might as well join the conversation.

Personally, I’ve noticed that the most successful companies are the ones that address customer service issues head on. It makes them look on top of the business and brand.

The same goes for you and your online business. When you get comments, good or bad, about your site or service on social media, then get out there and get involved in the discussion. It can only make you look more credible and responsible for the site and business you are hosting.

Get Customers Buzzing

Just as you want to get other folks in your industry interested in and talking about you, the same goes for your customers. In keeping, try your best to create compelling, interesting content, graphics and pictures that practically beg readers to share with everyone they know.

Andy Warhol famously noted that everyone deserves 15 minutes of fame in their lives. I think every Internet marketer should strive to go viral once in their lives. Here’s an article on campaigns that went viral. It might give you some good ideas.

Also, if you are ready to get serious about social media marketing, I think it helps to look to people who have been successful, learn their tactics and use them. This program by Bruno Buergi called Social Media Mastery is a pretty good place to get started. It uses real life case studies to demonstrate ways people have used social media marketing today and in the past.
